Abstract:

The Karonda (Carissa carandas L.), an underutilized fruit crop, has the potential to become a valuable asset for rural economies. This resilient evergreen shrub, native to desert and subtropical climates, offers a range of benefits. Its fruits, rich in iron and vitamin C, possess antiscorbutic properties and can be used in various culinary applications, from jams to pickles. Additionally, Karonda has a history of traditional medicinal uses, with modern research uncovering its potential in treating various ailments and highlighting its cardio protective and antiviral properties.
