Smart processing, handling, and monitoring systems using Artificial Intelligence (AI) and related techniques have embodied the recent technology in the food sector over the past few decades due to the increasing demand for food products in line with the increasing population worldwide. The food sector faces a significant challenge as the world's population will be over 9 billion by 2050, necessitating a 70% increase in food production to meet demand. The food sector has an increased need for these intelligent systems due to their versatility in performing activities, including automation in various operations performed during food quality assessment, control tools, food categorization, and prediction. In order to choose the best approaches for advancing upcoming AI innovations in food industry, this paper studies those numerous applications and explores their benefits, drawbacks, and formulations.
