Abstract:

Precision farming in the age of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Big Data represents a transformative shift in modern agronomy, integrating smart technologies, real-time field data, and advanced analytics to enhance crop productivity and resource efficiency. This data-driven approach leverages satellite imagery, remote sensing, IoT-enabled soil and weather sensors, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), and machine learning algorithms to monitor field variability with high spatial and temporal accuracy. By analyzing large volumes of agronomic data, predictive models enable site-specific management decisions related to irrigation scheduling, nutrient application, pest and disease control, and yield forecasting. The integration of AI-driven decision support systems allows farmers to move beyond traditional uniform input applications toward precise, need-based interventions, thereby reducing input costs, minimizing environmental impacts, and improving profitability. Big Data analytics further supports risk assessment and climate-resilient planning by identifying patterns associated with weather variability, soil health dynamics, and crop responses. This intelligent framework enhances sustainability by promoting efficient water use, optimized fertilizer management, reduced greenhouse gas emissions, and improved soil conservation practices. Moreover, precision farming strengthens supply chain transparency and farm-level traceability through digital platforms, contributing to food security and quality assurance. As global agriculture faces increasing pressure from climate change, population growth, and resource constraints, the convergence of AI and Big Data offers a scalable and adaptive solution for resilient farming systems. Ultimately, precision agriculture redefines agronomic management by combining technological innovation with ecological stewardship to ensure long-term productivity and sustainability.
