Bio-efficacy of ready-mixed insecticides against whitefly (Bemisia tabaci Genn.) and thrips (Thrips tabaci Lind.) in summer sesame

Abstract:

A field experiment was conducted at Main Oilseeds Research Station, Junagadh Agricultural University, Junagadh during the summer, 2024 to evaluate the different ready mixed insecticides against whitefly and thrips in summer sesame. Among the different nine ready-mixed insecticides evaluated, treatment pyriproxyfen 8% + dinotefuron 5% + diafenthiuron 18% SC 0.047% proved to be most effective against whitefly as recorded the significantly lowest (1.14 whitefly/3 leaves/plant) population, it was at par with diafenthiuron 25% + pyriproxyfen 5% SE 0.008% (1.35 whiteflies/3 leaves/plant), while lowest (1.40 thrips/3 leaves/plant) population of thrips was recorded in treatment of fipronil 40% + imidacloprid 40% WG 0.040% which was statistically at par with acephate 50% + imidacloprid 1.8% SP 0.10% (1.50 thrips/3 leaves/plant) and thiamethoxam 12.6% + lambda cyhalothrin 9.5% ZC 0.007% (1.56 thrips/3 leaves/plant) after 3 days of the first spray. A similar trend was seen after 7, 10 and 14 days after first spray as well as 3, 7, 10 and 14 days after second spray. The highest (1117 kg/ha) seed yield was recorded in the plot treated with pyriproxyfen 8% + dinotefuron 5% + diafenthiuron 18% SC 0.047%. The highest (1:21.6) ICBR was found in diafenthiuron 25% + pyriproxyfen 5% SE 0.008%.
