Growth performance of ornamental foliage plants under different shade intensity

Abstract:

The field experiment “growth performance of ornamental foliage plants under different shade intensity” was conducted at College of Horticulture, Mulde for successive three years (2020-2023) to optimize the shade net intensities for better growth performance of ornamental plants. The experiment was laid out in Split plot design along with 4 green colour shade net conditions viz., 25% Shade net, 50% Shade net, 75% Shade net and Control (main treatments) and 06 woody foliage plants viz., Red Acalypha, Green Acalypha, Malphigia, Arelia, Croton and Coleus (sub treatments) and replicated twice. From the investigation it can be concluded that different woody foliage plants showed better overall growth performance under M2 (50% shade condition) followed by M1 (25% shade condition). Hence for getting good quality of Red Acalypha, Green Acalypha, Malphigia, Arelia, Croton and Coleus, plant should be cultivated for cut greens commercially under 50% shade net.
