Abstract:

Animal feed manufacturing is a key component of the livestock and agribusiness sector, supporting the productivity and income of livestock farmers. This study, based on primary data from selected animal feed manufacturing units of different scales in Nagpur district, Maharashtra, examines the resources used, establishment and operating costs, returns, and overall economic performance of the enterprises. It also analyses the marketing channels through which feed reaches consumers, along with the role of wholesalers and retailers in transportation, storage and distribution. The findings indicate that animal feed manufacturing has good business potential, though its long-term performance depends on effective management of raw materials, production costs, storage, product quality, and marketing. The study offers useful insights for entrepreneurs, feed manufacturers, livestock farmers, policymakers and financial institutions seeking to improve the efficiency, profitability and sustainability of animal feed enterprises.
