Genetic Evaluation of Field Pea (Pisum sativum var. arvense L.) for Yield and Yield Components

Abstract:

The present investigation, “Genetic Evaluation of Field Pea for Yield and Yield Components,” was conducted during Rabi 2025–26 at G. H. Raisoni University, Saikheda, Madhya Pradesh. Twenty genotypes were evaluated in an RBD with three replications for eleven yield and yield-related traits. Significant differences were observed among all genotypes, indicating high genetic variability. KDP-27 recorded the highest grain yield (16.61 q/ha), followed by Uttara (16.00 q/ha) and Pant-243 (15.86 q/ha). High heritability and favourable genetic advance were observed for grain yield, plant height, and branching traits. Pods per plant, secondary branches, pod length, seeds per pod, and 100-seed weight showed strong positive associations with grain yield, whereas days to flowering and maturity showed negative correlations. Overall, KDP-27 was identified as the most promising genotype, and simultaneous selection for important yield components can effectively improve field pea productivity.
